About Us

🌿 About Rooted Chapel Hill

Rooted Chapel Hill is a Christ‑centered homeschool enrichment co‑op created to bring families together, build meaningful community, and offer children the joy of learning alongside their peers. We believe learning is strengthened through connection—where children and parents feel known, supported, and encouraged, and can walk together in faith and community. 

Our name and mission are grounded in Colossians 2:7 and our motto, “Rooted in Christ, Growing with one another.” Everything we do flows from this foundation.

Our Core Values

Rooted provides weekly group learning, hands‑on activities, biblical instruction, and academic enrichment in a warm, family‑focused environment.

Our desire is simple: to cultivate a place where children grow in Christ, friendships deepen, and families feel truly rooted in community.

🌱 Why We Started Rooted

Rooted Chapel Hill was born from a shared longing for community—an opportunity for homeschool families to gather regularly, learn together, and build relationships that strengthen both children and parents. We envisioned a space and environment where kids could enjoy group learning, teamwork, and peer connection, and where families could support one another through the homeschool journey. What began as a dream quickly became a movement of families eager to grow together, and we are humbled to see how beautifully God is bringing it all to life.


Meet the Admin Team

I’ve lived in Chapel Hill for eight years with my husband, Nick, and our two children—Loch (8) and Charlie (6). Before beginning our homeschool journey in the 2025–2026 school year, I spent seven years teaching kindergarten and first grade with two years as a full-time nanny of a close family in Nashville. Our family loves being part of the Grove Hill church family, enjoying Mexican food in town, spending time at the baseball park (or any park), and taking bike rides and walks around our neighborhood. Most of all, we treasure time with family and the friends who have become family. I am in awe of how beautifully Rooted Chapel Hill is coming together and how soon it will begin. I am so grateful for each of you and have prayed over this co‑op and its families as we start this journey together.

Lindsey Stowell

He owns My Mechanic here in town with my brother-in-law. My favorite thing in the whole world is being a mama and walking alongside other women as we journey through motherhood together. That’s one of the reasons I help lead theMOMs ministry at Grove Hill. If I’m not being “Mom,” you’ll probably find me hosting some kind of gathering, planning an event, or sneaking away for a little therapy shopping. Last year, Marlee attended kindergarten at CHES. We truly had a wonderful experience and have nothing but kind things to say about her teachers, the administration, and the school. But through a lot of prayer, we felt like God was leading our family in a different direction. So here we are, jumping into our very first year of homeschooling! And just like God always seems to do, He was already working behind the scenes. As Lindsey began dreaming about starting a homeschool co-op in Chapel Hill, our paths crossed at just the right time. Before we knew it, He was putting all the pieces together. I can’t wait to see what He has in store for all of us through Rooted. I’m so thankful to be on this journey with each of you! 🌱🤍

🌿A Day at Rooted: 


We are so excited about your interest in Rooted Chapel Hill! Our vision is to build a supportive, Christ‑centered community where homeschool families can connect and children can enjoy fun, engaging opportunities to learn alongside their peers. We understand how important it is for our program to complement your homeschool routine; therefore, we wanted to share some more details about what an ideal day looks like at Rooted Chapel Hill.

Our co‑op will be held at Horton Haven Christian Camp (HHCC) on Thursday mornings, 8:30am until noon, with our first official session beginning on September 10th. The grounds at Horton Haven Christian Camp are absolutely stunning and the perfect example of God’s amazing creation. We plan to organize students into three groups:

  – Kindergarten & 1st Grade

  – 2nd & 3rd Grade

  – 4th & 5th Grade

Each co‑op day, students will rotate through three sessions led by different volunteer teachers. Topics will change monthly to keep learning fresh and exciting. Classes will include a blend of extracurricular activities (art, music, physical education), biblical instruction, science experiments, and academic enrichment such as writing workshops and American Sign Language. Our goal is to intentionally focus on subjects and activities that are more effective and enjoyable in a group setting rather than at home. As a member of our co-op, you will have the opportunity to lead a session and share your unique talents with the students.

Although we will offer some academic content, our co‑op is not designed to replace your homeschool curriculum. Core academics will continue to be taught at home by parents. Our goal is to support families by providing enrichment experiences, hands‑on learning, and meaningful friendships.

Because we believe community grows through participation, a parent or guardian will be required to remain on campus during co‑op hours. Each parent will also be asked to serve in a volunteer role. These roles may include helping with setup or cleanup, assisting children during transitions, monitoring common areas, collecting trash, or supporting the co‑op in other practical ways. These small acts of service help our co‑op run smoothly, keep HHCC’s property beautiful, and strengthen our sense of community.

Please keep in mind that class groupings may be adjusted once enrollment is finalized and we have a better understanding of the ages and grade levels represented. Additionally, younger and older siblings are welcome to join you and be a part of the community. While our current focus is on the grade levels listed above, we hope to provide opportunities for siblings once the program gets up and running.

Volunteer to Teach

  • Do I need teaching experience to volunteer?

    No! Rooted Chapel Hill welcomes parents with all backgrounds. You don’t need formal teaching experience—just a willing heart, a love for children, and a desire to serve. We provide structure, support, and guidance so you never feel like you’re doing it alone.

  • What kinds of classes will I be teaching?

    Our co‑op rotates monthly topics, which means you can choose subjects that fit your interests, strengths, or comfort level. Classes may include art, music, PE, hands‑on activities, biblical instruction, science explorations, writing workshops, and more.

  • How long is each teaching session?

    Each class session is approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on the schedule for that month. Students rotate through three sessions each co‑op day.

  • Will I receive help planning my lessons?

    Yes! We provide guidance, sample ideas, expectations, and support. You’re welcome to bring your own creativity, but you won’t be left to figure things out on your own. Our admin team is here to help you feel confident and prepared.

  • Can I teach with another parent?

    Absolutely. Co‑teaching is encouraged and can make planning and leading a class even more enjoyable. It’s also a great way to build community and share responsibilities.

  • What if I’m nervous about teaching?

    That’s completely normal. Many of our volunteer teachers start out feeling unsure, but quickly discover how rewarding and fun it is. We’ll walk with you, encourage you, and help you every step of the way.

  • Do I have to teach every month?

    No. Parents sign up for teaching roles based on availability and comfort. Some teach monthly, some teach occasionally, and some serve in other volunteer roles instead. There is room for everyone.

  • What if I have younger children with me?

    Younger siblings are welcome on campus. You may keep them with you during your teaching session, or they may stay in the designated play space with our volunteer team for younger children.

  • What supplies will I need?

    Most supplies are provided by the co‑op or included in our monthly planning. If a class requires something specific, we’ll communicate that ahead of time so you have everything you need.

  • How do I sign up to teach?

    Teaching sign‑ups are offered monthly. You’ll receive a form or link where you can choose the session and topic that best fits your interests and schedule.

  • What’s the heart behind volunteering to teach?

    Teaching at Rooted is an act of service—an opportunity to invest in children, build community, and model Christ‑centered leadership. Your willingness to serve helps create the warm, joyful environment that makes our co‑op special.
